I'm just curious what is kind of experiences people have towing with their Explorer. What kind of hitch? How heavy of a load? Modifications to make towing larger loads safer?

I've towed about a 4000lb trailer a couple of times but i have a V8 with the load leaveling so it's a little different. I have a hidden hitch class III but other than that the truck is completely stock. Then again I have the V8 which makes a big difference in towing because of all the torque. As far as the suspension goes I didn't have any probs with sway or anything, just make sure u load the trailer as close to 60/40 front rear as possible to keep excess weight off the rear.

i have towed several trailers. One even had a pretty heavy toung weight, but all of them towed fine. i have a class 3 hitch, electronic trailer brake controller, and towing package. The only thing I would say is a must for towing is a good quality class 3 hitch and a transmission fluid cooler. e-mail me for more info on the cooler if your interested.

I've towed with mine quite a few times. Heaviest was just over 4000lbs through the mountains. Never had any troubles towing just make sure you do't use overdrive when towing or you will kill your transmission. Get a tanny cooler if you don't already have one and if you plan to tow often or to tow heavier loads get a Class III hitch.
