First snow expedition (with an explorer)

Hey guys! I haven't really posted on this forum, i mostly look for tips and how-tos. I really love the site. But anyways, I'm jus some 18 y/o adult who jus graduated hs last year and as my present I received a 1999 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer! Very nice and clean with good condition everything pretty much and I pieced it together myself and with the help of my friends to get it ready for inspection. I go offroading occasionally, water puddles on trails, mud pits, and today i went on a snow trail with a '93 Wrangler and a '00 Cherokee.

and we're havin a good 'ol time goin up the mountain...

we kinda forgot that they don't plow up there but we still chugged on up the mountain..

4970_10150141919825861_561660860_8324569_4816194_n.jpg

And we stop at one mountain top...

By this time i'm already sliding (due to bald tires)
3537_10150141918625861_561660860_8324551_5101825_n.jpg

and here's the fun part. we all get sucked into a ditch on the side one the road. first the wrangler, then my explorer...
4694_10150141918630861_561660860_8324550_3980469_n.jpg

and then the cherokee gets sucked in after he tries to find a spot to pull me to.
2887_10150141918815861_561660860_8324552_5669946_n.jpg

So here we are. all stuck. with no cell service, small shovels, tow strap and a chain. and a hand winch of some sort.
3959_10150141918435861_561660860_8324545_7688057_n.jpg

pulling, pushing, digging, packing, thinking, and FREEZING our faces off we're about to give up......

and this heaven sent random pickup truck comes rolling down the road and comes and pulls me out no problem.
3347_10150141919425861_561660860_8324564_6460724_n.jpg

and we make it back down the hill to solid ground.

never have i been so happy to see pavement. We'll prob never go on a snow trail again, but it was a great experience. everyone is okay along with our vehicles

after a long day for both of us I decided to treat the Explorer to a well deserved car wash for being such a champ.

I think i'm going to keep my explorations more on the urban side, as opposed to the rural part of my town.

hope you enjoyed, thanks for reading, and keep 'er movin!

god bless

Oops! :)

Time for some new tires... :D

@Joe, yes it's DEF time for some new tires. i'm gonna have to save my pennies.

@turbo, you're nuts lol. but it was something different. i would do it again on flat ground.

Should post some pics of mine. Last week went wheelin and was in so deep when you open the door it would scrape the snow. It was bad snow for wheelin though. The extreme cold made the top six inches wicked hard the trucks would stay on top then fall through where its over four feet deep. Haha took some digging to get the trucks out. :)

what are you doin hangin with those jeepers?! jeepers are known to cause trouble! hahaha (just kidding, my brother drives a lifted XJ like the one in those pics)

at least another Ford got you out.

good lookin sploder too

welcome & nice eddie u got there & do u got aim or yahoo messanger

@turbo, please do man i'd love to see that!

@red, HAHA, they did cause alotta trouble lol. and yes if anything were to pull me out i'd want it to be a Ford, and thanks! glad you could look past the green grille haha :)

@sam, thanks man means alot! and i do, but i never get on. PM me

looks fun, all the more reason to lift it!! haha

@specialized, I have air suspension and i do like having it. plus i don't have the money to lift it jus yet. i will someday!

getting stuck is all part of the fun,,

tires would be the biggest bang for the buck in that situation,,

Had some good fun snow wheeling during a storm 2 weeks ago. 4 of us went out and had a blast. We are under a storm watch for tonight so fingers crossed for some more shenanigans tonight. :D

And as has been mentioned, good tires will be your best friend. I have BFG AT/KO's on my Ex and I love them.

I have a 92 xlt I usually have no problem when im going but its always when you slow down when you get stuck lol. The only difference with me is i have no where to go 4 wheelin' because i live on long island where your not aloud to do anything.

Awesome gift dude, welcome to the world of wheeling...

X2 on BFG A/T KOs being hands down the best tires out there for all around use.

Where exactly is it that you wheel there? (Is there a name of a park or a trail?)

This was a trip last winter out at coral pink sand dunes. Needless to say didn't ride the sport quads. Way to much snow for 2WD quads, even with 40HP.

Tables show how deep the snow was.

Group camping site anyone? We normally don't camp in a campsite but it was the only place that we could get to this weekend.

Wife took an awesome picture of a tree.

This was a wheeling trip last spring and was the last snow of the year. Again was at coral pink sand dunes. 63 miles from my house. I had to drive to find snow when I lived there in Southern UT. Now live in WY and the snow here sucks bad, its so cold and windy that the top 6" gets to be wicked hard. You can't even hardly stomp through it.

Went with by buddy and his J**P
He has open diffs front and rear so if it get flexed at all it gets stuck easy.

A few more pics.
It weird wheeling in snow on the sand because if you get stuck you can't spin your way down or anything because you just sink into the sand.
