Hmmm maybe ill have to rethink buying another explorer....Not really sure at this point anymore lol. I know whatever i buy needs to tow the ranger, trailer, tools and all other equipment up over cajon pass to get to the desert areas up there....

Indeed, as you've discovered, teh Explorer in any way, shape, or form, just is not the right tool for the job. I used to pull my 4650 lb boat to the ramp in the summer... it was all of 5 miles, and there's no way in hell I'd go any further than that with it. The numbers on paper work, but the reality is that it just wasn't a good combination.

Furthermore, I think your weights are unrealistically low. A 4000 lb Ranger, plus 1500lbs worth of trailer, plus 25 gallons of extra fuel and oil (call it 200 lbs) plus all the extra gear and parts, and I think you're looking closer to 6500lbs when all is said and done.

If you can afford it, a Diesel Excursion is a heckuva way to go. I have two co-workers that drive extended cab F-250s with the 6.0L, and with nothing mroe than a programmer, they're both getting an easy 20 mpg on the freeway regularly (22 if they're careful). The one guy pulls a 32 foot enclosed gooseneck trailer with a regular dragster, a junior dragster, and a classic Chevelle drag car every weekend, and with that, he gets 16 pulling that all day long.

Well everything is on hold for me for awhile. Just found out that the exwife ditched the state with my kids....Now i gotta hire someone to track her down, if i do it myself ill be in jail for a long long time. So money is no longer available for toys or anything else....

Sorry to hear about your ex, dude that really stinks

Thanks guys, i know where she took them but ill leave it to the pro's. If she doesnt come back to cali by saturday they are gonna file kidnapping charges on her. Thank God for the 50/50 legal custody it being written in the court order about not bieng able to take them out of state. My luck has been kinda ****ty lately, but you know what they say it can only stay bad for so long....
