My X has the stock factory tow package, straight 4 pin connector. Earlier this year, my parents told me one light didnt work all the time. Never worried about it. I recently relocated my hitch to inside the bumper for clearance. I cut off the edges were it bolted to the frame and welded it inside the frame rail. Well dezert season is almost here, and no lights on my trailer work. All fuses are good. What are some things that i should look for in the wiring? My neighbor said that the trailer grounds itself to the truck through the ball and hitch, is this true and may it be my problem? I hooked the trailer up to my bros truck and it all works. Id appreciate any info. Thanks.

Jeff

Try testlighting your wires. 1 of your wires in the harness is a ground. If that gound is bad it will cause no lights to work.

did you splice the wires in yourself or buy a hook in connector for your pigtail?

boomin- could i use like a voltage meeter or something, or what do i do?

Gator- the plug is in the disconect under the rear bumper.

PS. i suck at electrical stuff and have not much of a clue in that dept

yes you can on DC voltage. Put the black lead on a good ground (frame) then with your flashers on and running lights on probe each one to make sure there is voltage (>12v) Then put the - of the meter in the ground of the trailor plug (black wire) and see if you can get voltage at the wires for the lights. If you no longer can get voltage then that ground is bad.

Another test is an ohm test. Put the meter in ohm setting and put one lead on the frame and the other on the black wire. It should read no more than .01.

okay. so i checked the plug on the X with a battery tester thingy, and its showing power on everything (flashers, turns, lights) when grounded to the frame and to the gound tip on the plug. so i guess that it good. Now when i plug it in, still nothing for flashers or turn signals, but when i turn my lights on, the three center lights come on but very faintly. GRRRR.

My next question relates to the plug on the trailer. its the standard 4, but with has 5 wires coming out the back. I traced them to this

Right turn, Left turn, Lights, Lights, Ground---however, the ground is cut like 1 inch after the plug. Should this be going to the trailer and connecting to somewhere? its just a little stub thats been cut off.
