Can anyone tell me where (pics please) and how to replace the seal that is allowing fluid from my transmission to get into my transfer case? 2002 Mercury Mountaineer AWD V6.

Thanks!

You will need to drop the transfer case, and then pull the seal using a standard hook type seal puller. Do you have a shop manual? Could you also decribe for us how you have determined the source of the fluid, i.e. is it overfilling, etc.

The transmission started hesitating when going into gear from park to drive. The fluid level was low. So Ichecked the Transfer Case and it was a pint over filled.

There are 2 seals in that area one on the trans output shaft and one on the TC input, it is very unlikely that both of those seals are bad.

Yeah because if I'm not mistaken the transfer case has transmission fluid in it, doesn't it?

EDIT: sorry, missed that one.

Yes, the TC has trans fluid in it, and a pint missing from the trans would not cause a problem, it would still be in the safe area on the dip stick. Using one of those hoses that pump fluid in, like they use at most oil change places for topping off the TC fluid could easily put an extra pint in the TC.
