I have a 1995 explorer eddie bauer edition.
I got a problem with my transmission. I dont know if thats it exactly. When I drive the overdrive light starts flashing and the tranny shifts at high rpms. Any recommendations on what the problem and how it can be fixed?

You'll have to get the codes read. The blinking OD light means that there is a code stored in the PCM. The codes should tell you specifics about the problem.

Ya, what he said...

It could be something as simple as low fluid level. Have you checked the fluid for both level and condition (engine warm and running, on level ground, etc)? It should be a nice ruby red pink color and shouldn't smell burnt. Also, little floaties that look like sand are bad.

If the fluid is good, then it could also be one of the solenoids in the transmission that locks and unlocks the converter. I don't remember if that one is in then pan, on the side of the housing, or buried deep inside it's entrails. Perhaps someone else could chime in.

Otherwise, I'm afraid I have bad news... transmission failure :( Or something I haven't thought of yet... You can always try changing the fluid and filter and see if that helps any. I hope somebody else has some better new, though.

From what I understand about on board car computers, is that when the light is flashing, it means what ever is the problem is happening right then. I have also been told that a light that flashes means to stop driving. To get the code though you will need a more advanced scanner then what autozone, or whoever uses. you need to go to a shop to pull the codes. If you are lucky they may do it for free, or they may charge you, it depends on the shop.

I know my community college has a rather advanced scanner, I get to use it because I am astudent on the automotive program. They are very advanced and expensive. So The price for the codes is justified, plus thos codes can really help you out, I would sugget finding what code you have.
