Hi.Great forum.I have been reading the vb rebuild thread after problems developed in my 94 Explorer. When I first start it in the mornings you have to drive it a mile or so at low speed before it will shift out of 1st..After it shifts the first time it does fine.It pulls real good at all times.Never slips at all.I had this tranny rebuilt about 30000 miles or so ago when the pump and front seal went out and it occasionally done the same thing after I got it back from coleman taylor.I took it back and they said they changed the modulator valve. It worked fine when they returned it until the past couple months and it began the not shifting out of 1st for a mile or so thing.Dosen't lose any fluid from anywhere. The fluid is slightly dark but not bad.Dosen't smell like it has ever gotten hot.Any suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated.I am decently mechanically inclined. Thanks in advance.

thanks brooklyn.can you explain

the extension housing .My tranny dosen't look like it has an extension housing and a transfer case..Just one connection.I call it a tail shaft to the tranny body.I took some pics of it if I can post them.I don't believe I can.Any way to email you the pics..thanks

2 wheel dr

I think the difference is mine is a 2 wheel dr and a transfer case is on 4-4's.So I guess I have to remove the output housing to get to the governor on mine.Am I correct.Does anyone have a diagram of this that they can post for me..Thanks

thanks brooklyn.I got the governor out.Can you tell me what to examine on it..Mine does have the extra smaller spring on it.you think that might be holding it in too far.Looking at how its mounted as the speed increases its center moves out to open the valve. That aftermarket spring hold pressure inward. It seems the wear surfaces on the weight and top are worn some.would that matter. It seems to move through the channel pretty good..Where would you get a complete new governor assembly at.The dealer dosen't list it.No aftermarket stores carry it and tranny shops say they get them from salvage.Dacco says they can get one but from salvage also..Thanks

The 4 X 4 housing is different than the extension housing. The shaft or the stalk which the weight moves on gets worn down after a while. Try WWW.FastPartsNetwork.Com, WWW.Axiom.Com, or the Ford dealer as a last resort. I'm not sure if WWW.TransmissionPartsUSA.Com sells it, but I do know that they sell the 35 MM weight.
