Tranny temp and Elec brakes

I have a couple of questions. Ford sells a Tranny temp selenoid for $21, but how does it work in the system since they don't sell a temp guage? Also, is there a factory setup to put 7-pin plugs and an electric brake control on an X for towing or has anyone done this and give me some advice? If anyone can help, thanks in advance.

The temp solenoid is used by the PCM to adjust shift firmness and other factors. The easiest way to monitor temps is with an OBD II diagnostic tool.

I am not aware of any special towing plugs besides the regular one for trailer lights.
