I recently replaced all 6 solenoids in my 2001 Sports Trac 4x2...
(purchased from a link suggested in this forum)

After replacing them I'm getting the blinking O/D light...

Took it to a shop and the error code showed:

P1746 Pressure Control Solenoid A open circuit..

My question is which one is the PCS A?

Anyone have a pic that can show me....

or Advised a solution or suggestion...

Thanks for all the help...

Steve,

I'm from Virginia....So that means I'm a little slow...

Is this saying that the connections are bad or does in mean that Solenoid bad?

When I got this 6 replacement solenoids from 800700 trans....4 of them looked similiar and the other two were different...

Are the 4 interchangable?...I kept the all the ones I removed...If its the Solenoid thats bad, could I use one of the old ones? Is there a way to check them?

Thanks...

Charlie

a solenoid is a long piece of wire, measure resistance across the 2 contacts of the solenoid, and you should measure a low value.
If the above didn't make any sense, get someone with electronics expertise to help you do the measurements.

If the solenoid checks out ok, then it will be a wiring issue (broken or bad connection).

Okay, I'm just going on Service Manual info as I haven't had to do anything to mine. The 4 #139's in the illustration "should" be the same as I read it.

bdmaash, that comment "almost" threw me. Yes a solenoid is a winding, a long piece of wire so to speak. LOL !

What should the valve be?

I can check the impedance...

Also, I will check the continuity on the wire.

Thanks.....

misread? "VALUE"
yes, you are checking for continuity of the solenoid's coil (I called it a long wire), as far as it's impedance... (measure a working one for reference)

You probably know this, but I'll write it anyways.
A solenoid is a magnetic switch (sort of), there is a big winding with a metal rod in the middle. When the winding is energized, a magnetic field is created. The magnetic field will move the metal rod in some direction. The rod will push or pull something.
Right now your computer says it's open circuit, meaning when it tries to energize the coil, it doesn't see it (the complete connection) there is a break in the connection. This means either the coil (long wire) in the solenoid is broken, or the wiring harness to the solenoid is broken, or there's a bad connection.
All you are looking for is a broken connection (the open circuit) somewhere.

Check solenoid resistance by connecting an ohmmeter at the terminals of the solenoid.
Measure and record the resistance of the EPC (ELECTRONIC PRESSURE CONTROL (EPC) SOLENOID) solenoid. Resistance should be between 3.7-7.2 ohms.

Is the resistance within specifications?
Yes
GO to D6.

No
INSTALL a new solenoid and install the transmission fluid pan.
D6 CHECK SOLENOID FOR SHORT TO GROUND

Check for continuity between engine GROUND and the EPC solenoid terminals with ohmmeter or other low current tester (less than 200 milliamps). Connection should show infinite resistance (no continuity).
Solenoid Terminal
EPC +/-

Is there continuity?
Yes
INSTALL a new solenoid and install the transmission fluid pan.

No
REFER to the Diagnosis by Symptom Index in Diagnosis By Symptom for pressure concerns.
