trans pump

Was told I probably damaged the pressure pump on my A4LD trans. What can I do? How can I tell if I did damage the pump?

I installed my trans by bolting the torque converter to the flywheel first. Am I screwed?

Welcome to this forum! Is the front seal leaking now? Do you hear excessive grinding noise from the front pump gears?

No leakage and no grinding noise. A slight almost knocking noise or clicking noise.

Which engine do you have? It could be the flexplate to crankshaft spacer if you have the 4.0L. The 3.0L doesn't have this part.

When my trans went out, it started whining and the next morning I had a puddle of fluid under the truck. I put 2 trans in and neither one is going into gear.

Did you reuse the same torque converter on both transmissions? Did you flush out the cooler lines with cooler cleaner chemical before you installed the new transmission?

No and no I did not flush out the lines. The fluid in the original trans actually looks like motor oil with lots of metal shavings.

The old torque converter, lines, and the front cooler probably had all of this junk in it. It got pushed into these transmissions. Torque converter clutch plates wear out after a while. Nothing lasts forever.

Flushing out the cooler lines should clear the problem?

I think it's a little more than that at this point. The old sludge got pushed into the transmission. The old torque converter is probably bad too.

Even with just starting it one time? Holy cow.

Valve bodies are very sensitive to dirt. You might have to open it up, and clean it out very thoroughly.

How do you flush out the lines and where do you get this chemical? (I'm having the same problem as him, although I'm suspecting that either the flywheel or spacer or both are bad because I keep getting a broken gear on the tranny pump ~ the small one.)
