When I checked the automatic transmission fluid on my 2001 Explorer 4.0 i found that it was low. I added some Mercon V only to have it pouring right back out again. There is a hole in the transmission dip stick pipe about the size of a dime. It looks as though it rusted out. Is this part replaceable? and if it is, is it something I can replace myself?

Yes. There is a bolt on the back of the cylinder head holding it in place. Once it is removed, the tube slides out of the transmission. It has some o rings to seal it.

Thanks, I've fashioned some hose around it and clamped it on for now. My knuckles are still skinned up from changing the cracked plug on number 3 cylinder. A great weekend project outdoors in December.

The trans shop had to replace mine in 07. The part number was F77Z-7A228-AA.
