Transmission Fluid Change

Hey everyone, I recently bought a 1999 Explorer XLT SOHC with 78,000 miles on it. I don't know what kind of service the previous owner did to the tranny and went to Ford to get service and requested they change the tranny fluid. The service advisor told me the fluid looked OK was a little burnt and brown but since he did not know the previous service done he would not change the fluid because the tranny could go into "shock." I asked when i should get it changed and she said "never." I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here. I don't want to blow my tranny but at the same time want to make it last the rest of the time I own the vehicle.

That's BS. If it's smells burnt and is a little brown change it. They're just telling you never change it so you'll be back for some repairs 30k later.

Controversial Subject

I have 151,000 miles on my Sport and plan to replace my ATF with synthetics once I complete my remote oil filter and coolers installation.
