Transmission interchange question

Will a transmission from a '98 Explorer w/ 4.0 OHV work properly in a '97 Explorer with a 4.0 SOHC? Both are 4x4.

Is there anything I should be aware of before doing a swap like that? I can get a very nice price on a low mileage trans from the '98, but I won't bother if it would require a bunch of other modifications.

You will have to bypass the wiring for the ODS since the 98 didn't have one. Check # 7 in my list of useful threads for more information.

Just to make sure I understand your other thread-when you say "bypass" the ODS, you're just referring to cutting the harness at the plug and soldering the 2 ends together, correct?
