I am new to this forum. I have an 06 EB V8 2WD with trailer tow 8500mi. Has anyone had a transmission issue. Mine seems to downshift very hard from second to first in traffic. I had it back to the dealer and they did a tech sevice bulletin to it but it did not change. Wonder if anyone has had the same issue and got it resolved.

Hey hows it going? I don't have an 06 but I'm a ford service tech and allow me to relate my story to you. Guy came in with his 06 explorer with the same concern harsh downshift 2-1 gears. I also did the tsb which was to reprogram his transmisson control module (tcm) which you had done. However after 3 months he was back with the same concern. Well after a nice chat with the enginner on the ford teh hotline, I was told that early build explorers have problems with the shift solonoids, the way they where built debris was getting in them at the plant, and midyear they changed the way the solonoids where built. If your still haveing the same problem go back and they should replace the mectronic assembly (fancy A@# name for the valve body) So far the guys I built the assem. in has not been back. Good luck!

OH BOY, hope that is not me as well, but mine is getting worse, after being at 50+ for a while then slow/stop for traffic or light and "bump/wham/nudge" comes up and is a little unsettling for sure.

Sorry to hear yours is doing it also. Sounds exactly like mine. Glad to know others are experiencing the same problem so that it will likely gets fixed correctly the next time in for service.

I am anxious to learn as much about the 06 trannies as possible. This appears to be a big year for changes... and of course I am always interested in upgrades and changes for numerous reasons....in the V-8 area I am dying to know more about the 6R. Anyone able to illuminate any of this?

[ps. I am actively searching for a CVT tranny to tear down and rebuild, and would appreciate any assistance from our west coasters.]

06 Transmission

I too have been experiencing the same problem at random times for the past few months. To take it one step further, twice in the past few months after backing up then going into drive it seems like there was loss of power. Pulled over, turned off the engine and re-started. Then it drives normally. Being an I.T. Professional it is like I had to "re-boot the system"

I am glad to hear there was a service notice on this. I will mention it when I bring it in.

Jake.

jsandkj, i had the same problem as you. brought it into the shop and got it fixed.. hopefully it doesnt come back. But this what i found online about the issue. http://www.alldata.com/tsb/Ford/1165392000000_1165824000000_06-23-11/index.html

click on the sublinks (page 1 and 2) it describes the problem and solution in detail..

if anyone else is experiencing this, i suggest bringing it in.... its not only annoying but somewhat dangerous at times.

There has been an update to the update TCM/PCM reprograming TSB. It deals with various driveabilty and trans shifting issues.

Well mine finally got fixed. After 3 trips in to 2 dealers. First dealer did the TSB and it did nothing. I then took it back to them and they said they did not know how to fix it and would call me as soon as Ford came up with a fix(still waiting for that call). Worst service I have ever had at a dealer. I have actually written to Ford about it(also no reply from them). I then took it to the dealer that I purchased it from. I explained my situation and they had their Tranmission Tech go for a ride. We did not even leave the parking lot and the transmission banged into low. The guy was like holy crap was that it? He said how could they let you leave the other dealership like this. Long story short they fixed it in 1 day. It need a new valve body(shift solenoid) It now drives better and shifts smoother then the day I picked it up new.

Thanks for sharing, and guys not all dealers are bad guys. I maintain the weak link is the service writer 99% of the time. FORD tech are among the best trained out there.

Sooooo true. And by all means, call or write Ford customer service and complain about the crappy service. We do hear about it and are rated among the dealers within the region. The better dealers do do something about it.

Corporate Ford lost over 12 BILLION US dollars last year. They are listening to the customer now, I'll bet.
