well this was professionally done at a shop. I can try to look at it but there's no way i could fix it myself if it's installed wrong. not sure where to go with all this. of course no one seems to be able to know how to service these properly around here

This is why i fix it by myself :)

A transmission?! I don’t have a lift or a garage

i have no idea how to do that
It is fairly easy to replace but it requires a pan drop to remove the sleeve. Usually when it goes bad it will leak toward the rear on the passenger side of the transmission. The sleeve is located near the top of the transmission. The most difficult part of replacing it is removing the transmission pan which usually means spilled transmission fluid whenever I do this. The last time I had the pan down I had a shop weld in a drain plug. This lets me do intermediate transmission drain and refills without removing the pan and drain the fluid before the pan is removed to service the filter so there is nothing to spill when the pan is dropped.

Let me assure you that 98% of trouble cases ,6r60 or 6r80 dont need to be removed.

One of the most reliable ford and ZF-alike transmissions .

It could seal and not to leak while the connector cant be seated all the way inside the TCM causing several connection issues.

For my opinion ,begin on checking the bulkhead sleeve position or tell your mechanic to do so

Here is your approximate repair flowchart:

Drop the pan

After the bulkhead connector position checked ( check the bulkhead connector seated all the way inside ,open and close the locking tab once again)

Check the main TCM connector pins resistance ,on the main engine harness all the way to the PCM,after checked ,what DTC do you have on your HS-CAN compatible diagnostic tool?

If the harness is ok and the bulkhead is ok and still communication issues are present ,replace the TCM ,the valve body to transmission seals (four cylinder one and the rectangular one) and perform TCM to PCM pairing process if the TCM changed to used one.

This is probably a long shot for a fix but non OEM coils, or failing OEM coils, located on the passenger side bank can cause communication problems between the transmission control module and the PCM. The video below goes over this issue.
