Transmission Leak

My 91' Exp, auto transmission is leaking trans fluid from the kick down / shifter arm. Apparently there is a seal that goes through the arm into the the trans. Does anybody know if I need to drop the trans oil pan to replace this seal or can I change it out from the outside of the trans?I have a Hayne's manual but it does not show how to replace it.

Doc,
Just had my tranny rebuilt on my '93xlt and the seal the mechanic put in was bad. He needed to take the cover off in order to replace it (thank God for warranties). Anyhow - you are probably gonna need to take the cover off...
