Hi group, I was hoping there would be an individual (preferably a Seattle local) who has the experience and ability to help guide me through the 4R70W rebuild process. I will pay you for your time and help.
The vehicle in question is a 1997 Ford Explorer XLT purchased new by my grandfather. I am the current primary operator and mechanic. It has 254,250 miles on the original transmission. It is still drive able and I do drive it almost every day, but I would like to get the transmission issues sorted out. The truck is going to the new driver in the family soon. The truck tends to buck under light throttle and is generally a sluggish transmission. I know of one fluid and filter change we performed about a year ago.
The reason I don't go out and buy a re-man. unit is that I love getting hands on and learning the repair process. I also have no working knowledge of automatic transmissions besides the basic theory behind their operation. I have multiple vehicles so this one can be down for a bit.
I will require assistance in knowing what tools to have on hand for the job along with selecting and sourcing the correct parts and 'supersessions / upgrades' where economically viable as well as the actual rebuild itself. I'm also quite sure I'll need to purchase a torque converter as well.
If anyone out there is able and willing to help please let me know! I live in Kirkland, WA, but I might want to do this job at my father's house in Gig Harbor with the much better garage. You can respond to the thread, PM me, email me or get in touch anyway you can. Thank you for your time!
