Transmission swap

Is it possible to put a transmission from a 04 mercury mountaineer with a 4.6 into a 05 Ford explorer with a 5.0 both are auto

The 05 explorer should still have the 4.6 v8 or 4.0 V6 no such thing as a 5.0 in 2005? Was that a type-o?

I believe both 04 and 05 use the same transmission the 5r55s however the bellhousings are different from 4.6L triton v8 to 4.0 SOHC v6

I don't know haven't see the vehicle yet guy selling it said it has a 5.0 in it

With a bad tranny so I was trying to see if 1 of my tranny's out of my 04 4.6 would bolt up

the guy is wrong
5.0 was 96-01 explorer
the 5.0 Coyote did not come out for 10 more years or so.............
