i like rust better (just kidding) it looks much improved.
 






I've never had any luck getting paint to stay on chrome long term, is there a special paint or prep step that'll help besides something as obvious as sanding?

i don't think that was chrome.
 






Heh, yes you're right. At first it looked like really dirty chrome exposed to acid rain or something.
