I have an 04 XLT with some issues has anyone else? first the trip meter keeps switching over to display the odometer, it seems to do it at startup but not all the time (at least 10-20 times a week). second I put on bigger tires 265/75/16 and now my truck has a hard time going into overdrive.
The X has the V6 with a 3.55 rear, the gas mileage has droped to 12-13 mpg
from 18-19 mpg with the original tires on. I have put the old tries back on for now. I think tranny issue is the cause of the poor mpg, do any of the power chips control the transmision shifts? Help!!

Hey!

There is a thread about resetting the computer for bigger tires, but I'll save you the trip:

They say that one of the things that the computer looks at in controlling the shift is how fast you are going. When you put bigger tires on, the speed sensor confuses the computer, and causes shift problems.

That could or could not be your problem, there are a lot of threads on "flashing O/D light", that may be a factor or not, too. Depends on if the condition goes away when you put your stock tires back on.

The Ford tool is supposed to be able to reprogram the computer, but reports vary on how helpful the dealerships are. I went to the SCT page, and it says their systems can. But that's like $3 - 400 bucks.

Now, the urge for your display to pick its' own settings, that's something I haven't read about anywhere yet.... Good luck on that!

my x is only 2-3mph off with the bigger tires. does anyone know if the 3rd gen transmission are the same as the 2nd gen, when i had my 97 trans rebuilt they increased the line preasure to make it shift harder. It seemed to work better with larger tires.
