Hi Everyone,

The neutral safety switch is faulty on my 91 Automatic. I know this because there are no reverse lights, and it starts in drive.

I went to remove it and replace it today, and found that the factory one won't budge. I tried a 3/4 wrench on it, and it just spun the wrench. Tried vice grips, same thing. Can't get a socket on it, because it's so close to the transmission housing. The material seems to be fairly soft, and I'm worried I'll round the edges and end up screwed.

Do y'all have any tips or tricks for removing a stuck neutral safety switch?

those things were such a PITA!!!!!!
You are going to need to get a good 6 point socket or wrench on there and use some leverage to get it to turn
You could try to put some heat on the base of the trans so the metal expands and breaks the seal, the threads likely have some sealant on them that is not helping.

since it is 19mm or 3/4" you could try a high clearance 19mm socket made for wheels.... grind a socket down a little so it will clear the trans case?
