V6? If your rear tires are locking up and skidding you have major issues. This won’t be a trivial repair.

If the back tires are skidding, either a brake caliper is seized, the diff is locking up. If the steering is heavy feeling then you may be stuck in 4wd, but that would not make the back tires skid, just the front feel bound up on pavement.
Is this a V6 or V8?
Do you know if there were any lockers installed ?

welcome to EF!!! the 4wd being stuck can cause heavy steering, and thats normal. to resolve that iirc you can rotate the shift motor under the rig. the grinding is the concerning part, as skidding is not related to 4wd. if its stuck in 4wd, try not to take sharp turns on the road, can cause driveline windup. that being said, grinding could be from really anyting, bad gears, axle shaft, driveshaft, etc etc. to add to seized caliper, could also be stuck parking break. that thing locks, but not hard enough to keep me from driving.
