I have an 04 Explorer, auto transmission. When I have the wheel turned as far as it can go in either direction, and apply the gas in D or R, the truck hesitates before it accelarates, the when it does accelarate, it jumps in response. What is the problem? Thanks.

Is this 4WD?

4WD not V8 with AWD? If V6, does this "jump" possibly feel like drivetrain binding? Any grinding when turning or tire scrubbing. I assume it feels normal when accelerating straight, forwards of reverse.

4wd, v6

I shift and applt the gas, and there is no noise other that the engine RPMs and a little clunk felt in the steering wheel, then a quick movement of the truck. Thanks!

I was thinking maybe the 4WD was engaging when it shouldn't. Your symptoms don't seem to exactly match this. When moving away from a stop straight you shouldn't feel anything different if it's the 4WD.

Thanks

Hi Joe
I thought the same thing when it first happened a cpl days ago. I had a 2002 F-150 that would do that when in 4WD, but the Explorer does the same thing but "jumps" more. Thanks for the reply.
