I want the truth about some of the mods for the 4.0 ohv. What kind of mods does everybody see being worthwhile? Anything and everything because im interested in doing alot of mods but, i dont wanna waste time on useless ones. Ik the tb mod is supposed to help along with cutting up the airbox..

I like the accelerator cable mod to take out the slack for more WOT... and since you have a '92, you can do the same for the kick-down cable. Better throttle response and downshifts...

I would say search, but The folks I have seen on here that seem to know the most on a lot of things is Joe Dirt, Spdrcer34, foxracin, jd4242, FIND right off the top of my head and and prob a few others.

Your best bet is to search the modified section, because the cold air intake and exhaust mods have all been done.

I used a honda intake tube flipped around to angle the right way along with a 90* bend off the throttle body used a 5.0 MAF housing and a spectre filter. No real huge gains because the most restrictive part is the heads on the Gen 1 x's.

along with cutting up the airbox..

it's the tube and the stock 4.0 housing combined with the heads that give the most grief. It isn't any one single thing that messes with things it all of them combined.

If you plan on "modding yours" to be really fast or whatever your fancy, I hope you have deep pockets because "MOST" of the mods that are available aren't cheap.

I am cheap and my truck isn't worth dumping serious coin into it (that and my wife hates that I traded for it) so Everything I have done has been really cheap or free. My exhaust cost me $20, my intake I have $70 (counting the junkyard 5.0 sensor).

If you have an automatic, from what I have read they aren't extremely reliable, but can be with proper maintenance. Me personally I have a 5 speed. There are a few people on here that have converted to a 5 speed. Foxracin did his for I think less than $200 including buying the transmission.

I would focus on a proper tune up, I think most of us prefer motorcraft stuff (I do). And a mechanic told me the secret to a long living 4.0 is to not let it get hot. These trucks are famous for cracking heads.

Cam,heads and increasing compression! !only thing that makes a true difference
