97 Explorer Eddie Bauer
I did a search
Is it possible to do a tt and add-a-leaf to a 97 Eddie Bauer with the air-ride suspension? I was thinking of just turing off the air ride switch but I dont know what effects it will have.

This may be a dumb question, but I have the 97 EB and I was wondering...what is the air ride suspension? Where's the switch? What does it do? My EB has a really rough ride...so maybe mine's not on or something...:)

The air-ride system basically "levels" out the suspension when hauling items. The Switch is located under the access panel where the tire-iron and the tank of the rear washer fluid tank is.
If you have the information center in your console, it would display if the switch is off "air ride off"

Thanks for answering my question. Would installing new shocks screw this up at all?

The thing that really makes me think is that with the expeditions and various Lincoln's the air-shocks are basically the springs. But i am not sure if it is the same way with the explorer. If the explorer acutally uses the leaf springs for the weight and the air-shocks just level out the SUV then changing shocks "should" be ok. Am i right?

You shouldnt have a problem changing the shocks. I turned mine off before and all it did was a light on the console came on. I leave mine on all the time. Like he sais it is used to level the truck when towing. So I dont see how shocks woyld mess that up.
