How the heck is this possible? Stereo experts explain how two 6 1/2s can reproduce the sound of any 15in. sub? Is this a joke? Hope this hasnt been posted before.

Video: Two 6 1/2's sound like 15's

If the link doesnt load go to http://www.powered4sound.com/media.html and the Video is at the bottom.

Sounds pretty good, but the people they're asking aren't experts or anything.

HOLY CHIT! Thats awesome, i agree with Husky, they arent asking experts, BUT DAMN! I wouldnt mind gettin the Specs on that Box and me trying it out, Also i wounder what brand Amp(one of the cars looked like an Audiobahn amp) Also what model 6.5"s ? I know they are Audopbahns, BUT DANG that is nice...!!!!

Heck i would definately try that out....

Well two 6.5's have a total surface area of 13", so thats not much less than a 15". Moving air is what a subwoofer does, the enclosure tunes it and makes the pressure created work for it....its all about the right speaker, amp, and enclosure for the situation. Soundstream used to make a sub called the EXACT well the EXACT 8" was one f the best damn woofers ever built and I have seen two of those 8's in a ported enclosure push more SPL's that 2 -Orion XTR 15's with a Pheonix gold amp...
Its all about enclosure, power, and picking the right equipment for the application..

If someone could make 2 6.5's sound that good i give them props. The only reason i dont believe that video too much is that when they're showing off the subs in the cars, the guys are talking at normal volume or not even making an attempt to scream their words.

Now i know you can turn the bass all the way up and put the volume at like 8 and get incredible spl at a low volume (used to do it all the time), but you still tend to speak a little lowder. Especially when the one guy says "its massaging my muscles".. his voice isnt raised at all..

I wanna hear it though. im no expert and could be wrong (and hope im wrong), just my observations on the video..

Wow that's cool.

i don't see what the big deal is. for the amount of space they used you could get a generic box and one 12 or 15 and im sure it would hit just as hard.

Bah, been around for a while.

I guess its not really an eye opener that there are MUCH more efficient boxes than the typical ported/sealed/bandpass boxes, and much better designs.

Snailshells came out of P4S' research of this, and they will custom make one for your specific sub if you ask them, for $200 I think... apparently they sound nice, but I would rather do it myself

Someone makes 5 1/4 subs. I can't remember who though. Good for tight spots.

lol i have a double shot from P4S.

That 6.5 inch video is real, and they do sound like 15"s.

The box they use is a prototype for the new centerline that they're in production now.

Doubleshots really do make u sound like u have double the subs u actually have. Oh, by the way, im the new guy ;)

It's all on the install and box. You can make any sub sound better then another larger/better sub.

And just for a reference, two 6.5s have just a little bit larger surface area then a single 8.

word.. its all box, install is only a little. The snailshell is a folded horn design, and its ported so u hear both sides of the sub, essentially doubling ur sub output.

Definetly worth the money payed for it.

Re:

They could make it twice as loud if they would do some insulation and some Vibration Dampening. You could hear how nasty the rattle was. If they got rid of all the rattle, and insulated, It would be way more effective.
