typical gas mileage with v-8

You guys with factory v8 explorers, what is your typical mpg? I did a search but didn't get much for v8. I know there are a lot of factors that affect it, but I am just looking for some indications. Thank you.

15. 13 or 14 in a bad week. As high as 17, maybe even 18 on long trips if I don't stop.

I just bought a 96 V8. I got approx 12-13 mpg with my first full tank. But I pulled a boat for about 40 of those miles so I'm hoping it goes up.

About 12 (city)-18 (highway) depending on conditions. I have a heavy foot and am at the mercy of winter gas right now. I expect it to improve as it warms up.

I'm seeing about 16-17 around town, but I drive mildly, rarely ever going over 2500 rpm. I don't drive it to work so it doesn't sit in traffic

in town 14/16mpg pretty heavy foot..lots of 5.5k shifts into 2nd and 3rd.

I just bought mine (99 AWD V8 LTD) in Indiana/Louisville KY, and drover it back to Dallas, about 900 miles.

I got as low as 16.5 but as high as 18.5 really averaged about 17.5, really crappy, my 2WD 99 EB with the SOHC 4.0 would have gotten about 21 or better

I typically get about 13 mpg with my 5.0 with minor mods. I used to get 11 but with the mods I'm getting 13. I've got a set of Torque Monsters waiting to go in on Thursday, I'll see if the mileage improves then.

I have a V8 awd and went from Florida to Kentucky and got just under 19mpg.

thanks guys, sounds like I could expect 13-15 city and 16-19 highway. I am test driving it now and will have about 60-70 mixed miles before I fill it up to calculate the mileage.

I think we will buy it, it is a 96 with 63000+ miles with the full time 4x4 and really clean, the dealer wants around $5500 which seems fair for the vehicle. I will let you know what I get for mileage.

We ended up buying it yesterday for $5250. I was able to put 81 miles on it with a combination of 32miles interstate, about 5 miles city like driving and the rest was 35-60 mph driving. I averaged 14.7 mpg and I only accelerated hard a couple of times for short distance. A little lower then what I was hoping for but seems to be in the range of others. I might try a k&n filter later to see if it makes a difference.

when i was stock i got 13-14 city and on the highway doing 74 i got 21-23. Now with the lift and all city is still 13 but highway is now 17-18 at 80...maybe if i slow it down some more.

K&N didn't give me much by itself, don't expect more than about and extra half mile per gallon or so. But every little bit helps at $2.50/gal. Keep your tires inflated properly, keep your truck cleaned out and keep your oil maintained are the 3 best tips you can get for mileage on any vehicle.
