My first post so I dont know if I have done it correct here goes.

The central locking seems very weak it does lock/unlock but I have to press the remote a few times each time I can here the actuators working but they dont seem to have enough power to open the locks.

I dont mind so much the doors not working but I cant open the trunk sometimes.

I have disconnected the boot actuator, it seems very underpowered.

Thanks

Have you replaced batterys in remote??

Regards Colin

Its the same if I use the lock/unlock button inside the car, I thought it might be the car battery but I have no trouble at all starting the car at all, Thanks

testing the electrics

any problems with lack of power on any other circuits (i.e. slugish starting, dim lights etc?

if the lack of power is only on door circuits I would check the relay (rear quarter panel near side) to see if you have a high resistance on the contacts, do you have the same problem locking and unlocking ? (they are two different relays) again this would point to a bad relay on unlocking.

You can try swapping the relays to see if the problem moves to locking.

you can test the contact resistance of the relay if you remove it and energise the coil across the battery, the resistance should be below 0.1 ohms with no load. anything more that 0.2 ohms no load will cause a significant voltage drop when in use as the load is over 20 amps for a short period when locking or unlocking. when energising the relay make sure you connect the correct connections for the coil to the battery

cheers

hi and welcome i my experience its usually the activation solenoids that go weak.cheers chris

Thanks for the responses I will give the relays a go tomorrow when I get home from work to start with, if not my neighbour has a scrap 1999 model I pillage Actuators off.

Is there any way to turn off the automatic locking when I start to drive?

Thanks Again.

The automatic door locks can be turned off or on as follows.

Make sure that the anti-theft system is not armed, the ignition is off and all doors including the tailgate and it's window are closed.
Steps 1 to 5 must be completed within 30 seconds or the procedure will have to be repeated. Before repeating, wait 30 seconds.

1. Turn the ignition on.
2. Press the door unlock button 3 times.
3. Turn the ignition off.
4. Press the door unlock button 3 times.
5. Turn the ignition on; the horn will sound.
6. Press the unlock button, then press the lock button. The horn will sound once if the auto lock system has been deactivated or twice (one short, one long) if the system has been activated.
7. Turn the ignition off. The horn will sound once to confirm the procedure is complete.

Hope that helps. But why would you want to? Its a good safety factor if you ask me.

cheers Howard

Glad you told him how to do that Howard, cos now i can put my fuse back in and disable mine, my drivers door stays locked due to a broken spring, and cant be opened from outside even with a key, so not knowing i could disable it your way, i whipped out the fuse, but it also works the power seat so i havn't been able to adjust it while driving.

Thanks Howard

Sorted out the auto locking took a few goes. Will try relays tomorrow with a bit of luck I can sort out the initial problem.
