Depends how you mount them. A lot of guys run "rock lights" which are underbody ligths specifically for offroading, so you can light up and see what you're navigating over. I think FROADER runs them now or ran them in the past.

If they're LED light strips and tucked way up under the body, you're fine. If they're mounted low and are glass housings, they're not gonna last through any serious offroading. Also keep in mind that if you go through any mud & water, you're going to cover them and potentially ruin any connections. Mud and water crossings are a whole different ballgame from rock crawling.

Bottom line: if you tuck the lights up and do some rockcrawling, you'll be fine. Any water crossings or mudding, and you'll coat EVERYTHING under there and they won't last.

Depending on what your going after.. another option is 12v fluorescent lights. I run a few tubes under the truck. They are bright enough to light up the ground under and beside the truck. They aren't so bright that they work when its "dusk" out or blind my spotter but they work for me. These have been on a couple years now. I sealed them but its not like they see a lot of water anyway...

You can see one of them on the drivers side here...

We used streetglow gold series neons. They are covered as long as the outer lexan shield is intact.

Ed, that is pretty damn sweet. She must've had the wiring done up real tight to keep all that mud out...

UMMM I Me MYSELF did all the work. It now sits outside her place looking all neglected. I think it is funny. She hasn't moved in over 2 1/2 years.

my mtr shoot up alot of gravel and i have broken 3 or four tubes led is ur besst bet

Thats why I like the 12v fluorescent drop lights. They are $10 each from the $10 bin at Ace hardware and they are in a plastic tube so they don't break easily. I have some I use as normal 12v drop lights and they have been dropped many times.. still work just fine..
