I'd love to be counted - I just don't have time to go out wheeling
You never know, I might have a free Saturday!!!

With 4 kids at home, traveling for work and everything - just very busy!!!

Verle, Clearfield, UT - 1997 XLT

I'll add you to the head count list. Maybe one day you could hit up a trail.

I do as much of my wheeling as I can in Utah. Can I be a mascott ur sompthin? I was out there in September last year and will be out there in May this year.

Jack-Wichita, KS 94 Sport

I'm down, typically have Friday's and Saturday's off and would love to hit up a trail or two.

Justin, Salt Lake City, UT - 2000 Sport

I'm in i live in St. George so we need to plan ahead a week or two!

I'll add this in, even if you are out of state and are willing to come to utah for some wheeling I can add you to the list.

For a trail run we will have to see how spring goes. Hopefully it will warm up quicker and then we can do a trail run. I will be creating a Utah Explorer Club Trail Suggestions. Then we will have to vote or something for a weekend and trail.

I was thinking of a May, June, and/or July (depending on the snow melt) trail run up to Inspiration Point (willard, utah). Its a easy to moderate trail, so most would be able to do this trail even with a stock 4wd truck.

9 Mile is easy and and we could loop over to Vernal and back. That would be primative camping though.

We could run the Castle Gate holdup route from Castle Gate and camp at the Wedges over look. There is a BL campsite there with pit tolet. Then we could go down through Buckskin wash by the Dino Footprint, Mat Warner signiture and then Black Dragon for the folks who want.

I need to do some running around and will post more this afternoon.

Attached pic is of the tracks I have for Buckhorn Wash and Black Dragon. The only 4wd part is that section that runs north of I 70 just east of center. The rest is 2wd dirt road. There are several places with pit tolets along the route other than the Wedges Overlook. There are campgrounds at the sout end of Buckhorn Wash but they are not scenic and are close to the road (very dusty).

Here is a link with some information and pictures of the trail: http://www.4wdandsportutility.com/adventures/rockies/1011_4wd_castlegate/index.html

The attached pic is a map with some tracks on 9 Mile. I is mostly 2wd but there are no facilities when you get out there.

This is a link with pics taken when I mapped those tracs. http://www.mappyjack.com/9mc.htm

Hmm...9 mile canyon I have always wanted to do. I was going to drive it last year, but I didn't get around to it and don't like wheeling with my 98 Ex...
The first one you posted I also like the looks of except for this...

Only because I wheel with this....

Not sure how well that would do with those rocks. the gas tank would be the only thing I worry about, but a skid plate would work for that. I really need a lift kit, but that'll have to wait for now.

Yup that pic of Larry's Heep was not even where he had trouble. There is another place with a steep short ditch you drive through and he had trouble with it. Said folks watched him work on it for 15 minutes and they left. Said it took another 15 minutes to get accross it. Now ifin we have a bunch of folks places like that are not a problem. Ya just git a youngin ur 12 and have them move a rock here and another there and then just ease through. I have a winch that keeps the rocks under the trucks most of the time. I always carry a shovel and others should also. The youngins can even move a bit of sand to help out. Course as I said that section is the last little bit that runs just north of I 70. Folks don't have to do it and can keep south on the dirt road to I 70 and skip Dragon.

Larry's Heep is stock and he had no damage on it from that trail. Just takes longer and a bit of work to get over stuff with a stock truck.

And true a larger croud the better. Your 1st gen Ex or BII would be more ideal for that kind of off-roading than my 3rd gen, but a lift could solve that.
I would probably skip out on dragon, unless I had my 98 and it was lifted.

This section of the forum is slow

I think Utah, although its a good wheeling state, does not have too many members.

Nate:

Inspiration Point!! Is that the road that goes to Willard Peak?? I have been there on my ATV's but not a 4x4. My friend did that trail in his stock Suburban - so its not too bad. The views are amazing.

I am game for that trail. It is close for me to travel to. Also, another suggestion is up by Hardware Ranch - Old Ephraim's grave. Been there too with my ATV's but not a 4x4.

I am game if it is right weekend. Generally the northern Utah trails would be better from June on.

See ya, Verle.

Yep, the road up to willard peak; starts in Mantua and heads up to the Willard Basin. I have yet to run that trail, and that's why I want to do that trail this summer.
I have looked over the Old Ephraim's Trail along with Peter Sinks Trail (I have a trail book).
I'll have to see what weekends I can do when summer gets closer. During summer, I am usually able to go wheeling every weekend.

Hey everyone;
I still have that inspiration point trail run planned for this summer, I havent come up with an exact date but its looking like mid to late june. The snowpack needs to melt.

Hey all;
I'm doing an trail run up to Inspiration point on Sunday July 24th. Be up in Mantua by 12ish noon at the LDS church at the south end of town.

We will go all the way to inspiration point or as far as we can go before the snow banks stops us.

Oh dang - I am out of town :(

Have a great time!!!!

I won't be close till next month. I plan to camp near Powder Springs, CO the night of august 10th. Then head cross country to Montpelier, ID. Won't actually be in Utah but with in 15 miles or less most of the time.
