V6 underdrive pulleys

INTERESTING, I have several customers with mustangs and F-150's running underdrive pullies, and never once have had a comeback. The years range from 1996-current.. I run a lively side business and haven't heard of this problem yet, this is the first. Even all the mustang websites I am a member of as well as the ASE forums and other mechanic websites I still haven't heard of a recall or a TSB about this even remotely being a prob. Not saying it doesn't exist but when there is a problem to amount to anything the manufacturer will at the very least issue a TSB. I am going to dig a little deeper about this to see what I can find.

The underdrive pulley is supposed to be the same weight as the stock gear.So harmonics shouldn't be a prob anyway!

As stated above, it's not an underdrive pulley issue, it's the balancer that is causing the problem. Pullies alone will not cause any grief.

Have you put a set on a Mach 1 motor yet? That seems to be where the problem is most prevalent due to the motor design.

There wouldn't be a TSB on it because it's not a factory item....

The ASP UD and harmonic balancer is actually 1 lbe heavier than OEM.
Is a very highend product with 0 problems reported so far on the OHV and SOHC engines

powdered metal and vibration don;t mate well.

I have had an ASP underdrive pulley with dampner on my 4.7l dodge for about a year now with zero problems except a painful install.

I was thinking about this last week knowing ASP made ones with dampners. post results, maybe we can get a petition together to get one made for the 5.0.

so these pullies are off of mustangs? just like the ford racing 70MM TB type of deal just a bolt on

No, they are not a Ford part and only on a 'stang if someone installed one.

They are an aftermarket part made to fit the 4.0 SOHC ( and OHV ) motor.

thanx aldive! another question for you is that i got a lot of mods done on my truck and i wana run it on a dyno to get a horse power read out since i sorta lost track how much is it to do a dyno run?

also if anyone decideds to buy the pullie post something id love to know how you liked it personally even though the dyno chart say +16hp and its $280

Dyno runs cost different at different places. For Example, a couple of facilities that I have personally used prices are as follows:

Walker Dynotune ( http://walkerdynotune.com/mainsite/dynoservices.htm ) 3 pulls $60.00

Pro Auto Tech ( http://proautotech.com/ ) 3 pulls $100.00

I have the pulley and will be installing it soon.

ight thanx man let me know whats good with the pulley i might just buy one =D cuz its either the pulley or highflow cats and i figure it will be about same price to do

According to ASP, is the exact same pully used since 1990 to 2005 on all V6s
Lee at asp told me that even the OEM pullys 90/05 have the same ford part number

The hi flow cats will do nothing for you unless your current cats are bad.

yea ive been reading that there is barely any difference since the ones already on are pretty much high flow correct?

my dad was looking at pullies off summit racing for this 98 5.2 durango and the forum he is on is run buy a master mechanic for dodge and he told him not to get them becuz they will screw up the engine. http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=egnsearch.asp&N=115+-59186+-59491+-42619 i forget exactly what it was that got messed up but he didnt get the pullies... is there a way that this new pullie would mess up the engine?

If, and thats a big IF, the pulley reduces the water pump to a point that the engine can overheat at idle speed, the overheating could harm the motor, This would also be very easy to prevent; simply rev up the motor if the temp increases.
