engine compartment for a sport and 4door is the same

wat about the rest of it?

I don't see why it couldn't be done. Everything is the same. Only thing is you'd have to take the AWD that comes with the 5.0.

Too bad Ford never put the 8 in the Sport...that would have been a great truck.

It will require a bit more modification the wiring as well, because 95 uses OBD I, and 96 (first year of explorer V8), uses OBD II.

But please, PLEASE do this, I will even come help ! :D

hey i'll do it if u help! well, it won't be till next summer if i do it at all. I have to get it paid off first, find the engine and do the research! it'll be a while! How much would a 5.0L? I was thinking of finding a wrecked x with one and just buying it and i would have all i need, but i don't know about all this electronic crap! ideas are welcome! superchargers on my mind too at this point!

Very cool.

For a street or offroad application?

Buying a wrecked 96 with the V8 is definitely the way to go. I bet you can find one with decent mileage for 4-5K or maybe lower. Let me know if/when you decide to do something and I would be glad to help.

Well I have about 60,000 miles on mine. If it ever goes out I want a 4.6 in my 01 sport. I am sure the tranny will need to be replaced too. So I think it should be somewhat easy. Can't be that much harder than just swaping out a motor anyway. Too many nuts, bolts, wires, and other assorted thingies.

It will be VERY hard to swap in a 4.6. Have you taken measurements on it's width and height? A 5.0 fits in nicely but unless your engine compartment is larger than the 95-00, major mods will be required to fit the engine.
