Hi,

I have a '96 Explorer V8 4x2 and I would like to know if some of you have any experiences about the "lifetime" of the transmission for the V8. The tranny is working fine (95.000 miles) but when do I have to expect to renew it?

thanks,
Nils

I'm going to guess you will get responses all over the map. There are just so many variables. Fluid changes? Cooler? Type of Driving? vehicle history? Luck of the draw? Put em all together and I'll bet you will get answers ranging from 60,000 miles to over 200,000. With a cooler, fluid changes, soccer Mom use and no lead foots, you should have a lot of miles left.

I'm at 95k and I've owned the truck since it had 72k. I havn't been the most gentle on it thats for sure and its ran great.

I'd say about 275k to 350k.

The 4R70W (V8 Explorer tranny) is a good one. Very durable, and should go 150k and beyond with proper fluid changes. Remember, a big cooler and fresh fluids are the key.

FYI- Ive got 120k on mine and have beat the piss out of it. Ive towed overloaded and at one time i was running nitrous. Its still going strong.

Did you got your aux cooler from a Ford Dealer or some other shop? Because I was at my local Ford Dealer today and he didn't know anything about an aux tranny cooler.
