seconds... after the engine has been started. i know that once the engine starts oil starts to flow and build pressure .i guess my up-bringing was mis-guided thinking the engine has to warm up for at least a minute or 2.

ok...thanks al , i'll follow your advice.i'll be reading your thread on the hho kit to see how it works out .swaintan has offered me a hho kit for mine so i'm interested to see what kind of configuration you use and how it affects mpg's.
I drove my 94 4x4 xlt from WVA to MN ,1000 miles and got 18.5 at 70mph all the way here,I had just bought it and had not tuned it,dead stock. That was in Nov 07.It has 120,000 miles on it and 235/75/15 Goodyear Wranglers on it.
Keep in mind that air temp outside plays a big role in MPG. I picked up a couple MPG's last week when it was in the mid 30's C vs the week before when it was low 20's C. Same driving habits and same routes. Cooler air has more oxygen, cooler charge taking more gas - but you get a bit more power
Hi, new here and love it! 92 explorer 4x4 145000 miles. Drove SF to Denver and got 19 while averaging speed limit. After reading this, I am encouraged that with some tuning and perhaps driving at 65 I can get more!
My rig is a one-owner that was gifted to me and was completely maintained and I intend to keep it that way.
Projects include (u guessed it) transfer case motor R&R
AC charge (still r12)
It has the weird rod knock - lifter - cat screen - noise that I read about here. Will look under the rig, and maybe SF the motor. Used SF many times (in the carb/injectors) and love it, as do my neighbors....
Tranny fluid change (the oil is new but the tranny may not be.
I am a fairly experienced shade-tree mechanic, but I have a problem. Some A#% hole has fingered me and my tools have been swiped twice in the last year, including while I was in California picking up the Explorer!
I want to know also!!!! I get the LESS 13.5-14 HWY and I drive VERY conservitive. On the highway I rarely go over 60 thats 2000RPM on my rig and I have a manual. In town I get 10mpg shifting between 2200-2500 nice easy acceleration no jack rabbiting. My rig just flat sucks on fuel.
The only way in hell my rig would get 20+ is sitting on a flat bed and having the tow truck driver stop every 20 miles and let me drain a gallon of gas out.
