Hello, I joined this forum last year to learn about rebuilding the VB in my 2000 Mountaineer. I was having trouble with the 2-3 shift, and big trouble slipping in the downshifting when accelerating at high speed (like when passing) . I learned so much from this fine group, and with the added tutelage of my buddy Myron I did the whole thing, replacing the blown out gaskets and also installing the Superior shift kit. That solved all the slipping that was going on. After a few months it started flaring in the 2-3 shift. I added some Lucas fix stuff and it went away for the next several months. ran perfectly. Now the slipping is back, and the O/D error light comes on at least once a day. When I shut off the engine and restart the error goes away , but the slipping remains. (I do not have access to know what codes are being thrown) Myron is suggesting that now instead of trying pieces and parts, I just replace the whole VB with a rebuilt one. He thinks probably one or more of the solenoids are bad, and best to just start fresh. Does that sound like a reasonable plan at this point, or should I just replace the solenoids? Any suggestions for further troubleshooting and repair will be much appreciated.
