Vibration / Hum From The Dash

I had the same issue on my 2014 XLT. Thanks to this forum post, I mentioned to the dealership that the cowl could be responsible for the noise. They reseated the cowl and glued it back again. I'm glad to say it fixed the issue. So relieved that they didn't have to undo the instrument cluster. Thanks y'all!

Good to know. I have it on a 2014 and may have them check the cowl. I had to have the dash taken out of my 2010 for a HVAC problem and all that did was cause rattle problems. I'd never have my dash taken out unless something was totally broken!

I have the same problem. It appears to be happening when it's warm and now that summer is hitting it's happening more and more often. Once the interior of the vehicle cools down a while, it goes away. Good to see others have the same problem and are finding solutions.

You have a new vehicle so you shouldn't have to do DIY fixes to it. This is something the dealer should check out and fix.

Hi dhankx,

Welcome to the site! As Peter mentioned, this is something you should have your dealership address. Now that it's happening more frequently, it may be easier for them to track down the noise. How many miles are on your Explorer?

:us: Well, I have a 2016 Explorer and the bee hive buzz in mine as well! And yes they found it to be the cowl under the hood/wipers area. It is now in the Ford service bulletins. Because the 16's just came out they had not transferred this bulletin to 2016 service notes. So it took 4 trips to find it. Then in the repair process they broke my windshield! At least they gave me a Taurus Limited to drive while all this is going on... But of my three Explorers since 1994, this one is over the top! :)

Glad that the dealer was able to fix the issue. Also, it would be helpful if you added the 'model' of your Explorer to your profile so it always appears in the margin when you post.

Yes. I have 2015 sport 1600 miles and am experiencing the same noise at 65 -75 mph. I thought it was the dash components as well tries pushing on them. Then possibly the flimsy windshield wipers so I turned them on and still heard the noise. Now I think it way be thecrubber at the bottom of the window. Plan to make a trip to the dealer soon.

:us: Well, I have a 2016 Explorer Limited and the bee hive buzz in mine as well! Mine showed up in the late afternoon hot Florida sun at 60-80 mph. It sounded like an angry buzzing beehive! Quite annoying on a brand new $50K vehicle! And yes they found it to be the cowl under the hood/wipers area. It is now in the Ford service bulletins. My Explorer has developed a humming rattle deep in the dash that seems to start at about 65 to 70 MPH. I have touched every piece of trim in the car hoping to dampen and isolate the source without any luck. It really does sound like it is originating from deep in the dash.

Has anybody had a similar issue? My Ex was built in late May and has 2800 miles. I intermittently heard this several times early on, but it is happening constantly at 65 to 70 MPH.
I have the exact same problem with my 2016 limites 4wd.
Sounds like bees buzzing in the dash. Seems like it gets worse 70 mph and above.

I had the windshield cowl replaced which solved the noise i experienced. Sounds like you have the same problem. the noise is hard to locate. Now i am trying to get it back in the shop for the headliner noise and a the door noise i am experiencing. really like my explorer but it is a noisy vehicle

As Jkrp mentioned, it is likely the cowl that is causing that noise. You can try taping it down and then see if that makes a difference. If it does, go back to the dealer and have them check it out. There are several posts of the cowl being the culprit.

I agree, Peter, but sometimes (dealer) incompetence and (customer) aggravation dictate other steps!

Since the quoted post was from almost 1 1/2 years ago, I'm guessing it's no longer an issue.
I'm also very surprised at the number of posts talking about dealer incompetence. In over 50 years of driving I have yet to experience it and I've dealt with many different garages and dealers. Just speaking from my own experience.

Peter, I am certainty not including all dealer service folk, just my local Ford dealer. The guys in the back were fine ( I think) but the service writers in the front were all shifty. They treated me like I had no idea what I am talking about (I truly do have a clue) This dealer is the only one close to me. If ever I need dealer specific work, I'll make the trek somewhere else. I bought a new Chev truck recently and those service folks are wonderful.

We really like our Exp. but it has been a bit of a rattle trap.

I am new to Ford. I was hoping to be a Ford Owner for life. First experience will more than likely lead to never buying another Ford product. Really disappointing!

This was my experience. Not the A pillar. Finally fixed but it was a frustrating experience. BTW the vehicle now has about 90,000 k's and I'm beginning to hear a noise again.
