Voice Command - is it worthless

It should be explained in your User Guide, MyFord Touch® with
Optional Navigation System.
There is also a brief explanation of MyFord Touch in your Owner's Guide.

If it worked 100% of the time for all users, then you can call it a fact. But it doesn't.

And I'm not going to try to record all the situations where it does not work. I can tell you from my experience it flubs up enough times on just things like the radio station selection that it needs more work.

PS

Case in point.

This morning, I get into the Explorer, start it up, back out of the garage and head down the drive like I always do. I head out onto the street and as I done hundreds of times before, I hit the button and say "ESPN Radio". Same cadence, tone, inflection, everything. How does MFT respond? "USB Help". So I try again - same result. I cancel and then initiate it and say "Sirius". It responds "sirius". I say "ESPN Radio". It responds "Please say a channel name or number".

I then manually tune the channel when I'm at a stop sign.

Then, just for giggles, about 2 mintues later I manually change then channel and then say "ESPN radio" and it changes correctly.

Sorry - no video as I was driving.

Hope that helps!
Sorry Rebecca - you seem like a nice person - but no, it doesn't help in understanding why MFT and its component parts will not work properly from one minute to the next.

Ford has had 3+ years now to get it right, and they haven't. Is MFT better than what was first released? Yes. But it is still not ready for primetime and if I had to fill out the JD Powers survey again, I would answer exactly the same way I did before.

I'm sorry you feel that way, dco43054. If you feel that your system isn't working as it should, please make an appointment with your dealership so they can take another look. As for your SiriusXM situation, I suggest having your dealer also look at your microphone.

Sorry, but no amount of dealer visits will cure the issues with software that is bad.

And since it lost its mind the other day, it has decided that ESPN Radio is once again a station.

I'm just hoping that when the system is finally redesigned, the new system will be well tested and debugged, and backwards compatible with the current hardware.

Voice command isn't worthless, but it is short of actually being really useful, and it is no where near where it needs to be as a replacement for a tactile HMI (and I don't mean a screen or panel that gives your finger a vibro-job when touched). Still a novelty at this point, but one that can do a few useful tricks here and there.
