There is a wierd squeak coming from the disk in front of the water pump on my 92 explorer xlt. I know alot of people attribute this to the camshaft sensor, but in my case i know it is this strange disk because when i first turn the car on the disk (which is right in front of where the belt meets the pump) is still, but after a few seconds it starts to turn with the belt and it then produces the squeak. Can anyone tell me what this thing is, if it is supposed to spin like that, and if there is a maintenance measure to keep it from squeaking?

That sounds like the fan clutch to me.. and it sounds like that is in really bad shape.. The fan should never sit still.. If you start the truck and water pump pully (the part the belt rides on) is spinning, then the clutch/fan assembly which is just in front of that should also be spinning.

Well, there is no fan in front of this disk, so we might be thinking about two separate parts. I'm gonna take a couple pics tomorrow and load them on imageshack or something so hopefully i can find out whats going on.

Either your running an electric fan, or the pulley your looking at is not the water pump. A picture is now in order... :)
