weird idle sound...vid inside...normal?

Hmm ok. Yeah, without a stethoscope, it sounds like the noise is coming directly from the tensioner. It is the bearing in the tensioner pulley that goes bad, or the entire tensioner arm? Is it recommended to swap the entire arm or can I do just the pulley? Is there an OEM equivalent that may be less expensive than the OEM one? Thanks.

if you dont believe me about the screwdriver , try it and get back to me , ive been a mechanic long enough to know it works

try it on you alternator even if its good you will feel and hear any noise (normal noise or not)

just sayin dont knock it til you try it

just sometimes there isnt enough clearance that you cant take your eye off the screwdriver with out risking getting it hit by the fan or belt

also you can use a funnel to magnify sounds like if you put it in a fuel filler tube you would be able to hear (better) the fuel pump or listen for noise inside the trans

For sure the long screw driver works. I've used it many times before actually buying a sethescope. They work pretty much the same, the ones with a rubber handle don't work as well though.

I was never doubting you, I was just saying I didn't really need to use a stethoscope/screwdriver because I could hear it and pinpoint it without it! Not knocking it, I'm an engineer so I well know how sounds and vibrations travel! Thanks for the tip!

Oh ok, thank you.

UPDATE: I swapped in the new tensioner in like 15 minutes (that was way too quick to swap out anything on a car, I thought I did it wrong haha) and the noise was gone! Thanks for all the help!!!
