So I was headed upto the mountains with the X and towing my quad behind. After about 4 hours of driving it started sputtering, when you put the pedal down it would bog out with no power then it eventually stalled. After waiting 10 mins it would drive fine for another hour then did it again.. I was thinking it was bad gas but it kept clearing up.. It was also 31c out which is unusually hot for canada in the mountains.. Not sure if this was it.. Once I got to the campsite i blew out my schrader valve with air back to the tank and it never happened again.. Has this happened to anyone or does anyone have any idea what this was? I hooked up my ODB II scanner to it and no codes were shown. I am at a loss as why or what this was?

potentially a clogged filter. last time changed???? one of the "good" things about ethanol "boosted" gas is that it helps "clean" your fuel system especially "gung" in your tanks which of course end up in your filter.

hmm I changed it less than 10 000 km ago.. Should it be more often than that? the only thing i did different is i filled up before that with premium which i was saying was the cause of the problem. Or maybe the heat? The truck was perhaps not used to it..

I know when it gets hot out, you can get what's called Vapor Lock basicly it's air in the line. The vehicle will act like it's out of gas, sputter, and lose power.

Happened to me a few times in my Bonneville before I got my X on really hot days. would sputter like it was out of gas. But 31c is only about 88F, and isnt THAT hot, but if its not used to it, it could possible cause it.

I would still check the fuel filter to rule it out. I replaced the one on my 97 Explorer about 10,000 miles ago but it got clogged and had to replace it. Kids were going on short trip, filled up with gas, and 45 miles later it died on them. They eventually got it going again but still didn't run well. I think they got some bad gas and you may have also.

If it happens again check you cat converters.Sounds like their plugging up.What happens is they get hot and close up the flow and then they cool and flow till they heat up again. When it happens check if any of them are glowing or extremely hot and funky smelling.Good Luck

I got home no problems but the temp was only like 21c on the way home.. Has not happened again.. weird..

i'm guna say fuel pump. check the pressure. I had your problem described. the pressure would only drop after it ran for a while, my mechanics thought it was the cats too, we by passed them, but later found a weak fuel pump to be the cause.

What should the fuel pressure be at the schrader valve?

anyone?
