So, I'm getting ready for work and my wife calls..."The car just stalled in the middle of the street and it won't start.
While stalling in traffic isn't the safest situation, she and my daughter are OK. I suggest she let sit , try to restart and move to a service station about 200 feet further up the street.
I then ponder possible causes and come up with the usual suspects; electrical, fuel system, etc ....?
As I'm getting ready to leave the house and investigate my wife had restarted the 4.6 XLT and limped over to the service station where the attendant added 5 quarts of oil to the engine after telling my wife it was bone dry. Afterwards she restarted and attempted to get my daughter to school....after lots of noise (described as a dog panting
) they turned back and left it at the same station.
When I get there the oil level was at Max and not over as I thought it might be. So, it seems there was no oil in the engine. I tried to start and all I got was a click. I also can't get the gear shift out of park. Dash lights up like a Xmas tree.
I checked the oil two weeks earlier and all was well. There were no lights or gauges to indicate a problem at all. I do lose coolant though and have to top off every other month or so.
So, did 5+ quarts of synthetic oil just disappear?
My friend is towing to his station and I'm expecting the worst.
Any guesses, suggestions or advice?
