Well It happened (now with pics)

Well it happened today the first trail damage to the explorer. If any of you know what happened to me towards the end of wheeler lake at CCR the same thing happened today. Instead of bushes to keep me from rolling over it was a rock wall the explorer slid into.

Heres the short story.

The trail we were on has about a foot of snow on it with verry icy spots. I was going down the trail me infront and my friend from work behind me. We came to a turn so I slowed down to a stop to take the turn slow so I would not slide over the ledge. When I stopped the explorer was sitting on nothing but a sheet of Ice covered in snow. So when I stopped the X slid towards the ditch and slamed into a rock wall that lined the trail. I tryed to get out but I was stuck. My x was blocking the road so my friend could not pass me to pull me from the front. So he had to pull me from the rear. By pulling me from the rear the explorer was dragged along the rock wall for about 20FT causing major dents and scratches all along the drivers side of the X. Most of the scratches are to bare metal and the stock plastic fender trim is craked in several places with pieces missing.

I had fun and I don't regret what happened, it was bound to happen sometime. My word of advice is Be VERRY CAREFUL when wheeling in snow. I will get pics up thursday or friday.

Well I don't know what happened to the pics of it on the trail while it was stuck but here are some pics of the damage. The pics only show the big major scratches and some dents. To get the full effect of the damage you need to see it in person so you can see the hundreds of small scratches. I know its not as bad as some other whoops' but it is big to me since my explorer had no other previous dents or scratches besides the ones on my rear bumper from Matts new front bumper. Just click the link and click on the file named Whoops.

That sucks. But on the bright side. Now you have a reason to herculine the entire side of the vehicle.

I was going to paint it soon but not now. I don't really mind it at all looks kinda cool. : ) Time to put the theory of chicks dig body damage to the test.

Well Joe............I don't know about you sometimes. Well I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that has a whoops in the snow. I've been good so far this year. Maybe next time you'll remember to air down and bring some chains with ya.

Can't wait to see some pics!!!:p

and thats why im not touching the body on my CJ before i take it off roading!

and chicks have not responded to my bumper well by the way. my GT has a nicehole in her, and no chicks. web site if ya wanna see pics.:(

Joe that sucks sorry to hear it. Guess my tapping your vehicle from behind repeatedly isn't such a big deal now eh? heh heh

Ya know Matt you scratched my bumper by doing that. That scratch makes the whole truck look ugly now : )
Hey now you know how to get everyone in a small town to look at you as your driving down the street just have to make a girl scream really loud. What did you do to her
Matt?

Well i finally got some pics up of the damage. Go back to my first post and click on the lick to see the pics.

Nice job Joe!!:p

So are ya going to fix or wear it as a trophy? I personally say leave it. It just adds to character.:D

I am going to leave it. With my luck I'll pay the money and as soon as I get it back I'll go out and screw it up all over again. It is my first whoops on the explorer and I'm proud of it and I have earned it. I may try and do something to it to keep rust from attacking the deep scratches.

ouch!

That's a good start. ;) :D

Maybe someday I'll be like you Paul :D Now I don't have to be so carefull on the trails anymore.

It's only the first scratch or dent that hurts so much. After that they don't sting so bad. I don't look for damage but if it happens I don't cry about it. The longer most people do play this game the more they adopt the same attitude. :)
