Yeah, I don't that it would ever be worth fixing unless you've decided to try fixing yourself. Bummer!

pretty much. i dont care so much about the fender as i do about having a door that opens/closes. a opening and closing door is pretty much on top of the list. if i can fix that, i would be more than happy.

it was pretty much inevitable news, but im still disappointed...

i honestly dont think it did, but i havent looked at it up close. if that were the case, im sure they would have said it can't be fixed at any price (estimate was $3200).

im driving back to my place tomorrow (still drives very well) so i can get a closer look.

it caught me off guard also. ive been researching in the parts forums and i hope someone on here has a reasonably good door i can buy.

I had to get ft fender and drivers door at u-pickit in kc. found one same color weverything glass ect. less than 100. u can take it loose at the pins and take it home good luck

pretty incredible what i have found so far....white door - lowest was $150,....white fender...about $100...this is great...and its all local...this prob won't turn out to be as bad after all

too much love into this car to just let it go...:)

i got the estimate in writing and a good $1000 was going towards paint (labor and materials). i was a little puzzled why they would paint it because the rest of the paint is pretty dull. guess it was a different color, i dunno.

ive found a white door and fender locally so im looking forward to fixing it soon. i had to pull the interior light fuse because the way the door is bent the door switch stays open and my battery drained at the body shop. ive had to put plastic over the door to keep rain out since i don't have a garage.

i found that the rubber fender skirt was pushed down and rubbing on the tire when turning all the way left. this may have been the "grind" i was hearing. but there are still new, but very faint, axle sounds when going straight, but i see no leaks, cracks, or damage that i can see. more than likely though, it will need an alignment before i drive it any significant distance.

ive also found that the rear door will close, but you can tell it is misaligned a hair. as long as it closes cleanly and does not leak, im not going to worry.

has the insurance company totaled it . if they haven't , don't jump into it to quick. you will have to buy it back from them before you can fix it up with a salvage title

i really hate these hard decisions...

has the insurance company totaled it . if they haven't , don't jump into it to quick. you will have to buy it back from them before you can fix it up with a salvage title

nope, my insurance company won't total it unless it is a total loss, as in destroyed (why that is, i don't have a clue). in that case they would write me a check for the value of the truck before the accident, which wouldn't be much, and buy a really cheap car with it. ive only been at my current job for 4 months and dont have enough $ saved up yet.

i explained to them several times that this is an old car and that the only damage is cosmetic (albeit not cheap), but they still want to pay to fix it. it is still very drivable. everything is still a little hazy, but i would have to pay my deductible and it would be fixed (all $3118.02 of it). im just trying to weigh in on whether it would actually be worth the time and energy to fix it. until i know for sure how this will affect my rates (clean driving record in 10 years), im in a "holding pattern" on a decision.

if i did have it fixed, i might forgo on the paint because the rest of the paint is pretty much shot and a quarter sized dent on the rear quarter panel doesn't really bother me. i think it would look funny with one side having new car looking paint and the other is dull as hell. besides, the paint is about a third of the repair estimate (labor + materials).

i doubt the car's value will change much, but im hoping to get at least another 50K (runs great, shifts great, looks OK considering).

it may be easy for some to make this decision, but im pretty much stuck. ive got time to think about it b/c i have another car to drive at least until summer. i keep thinking there is a catch hidden somewhere in all this (like they will fix my car but the paint will be from the oops bin at the body shop).

ill keep posting updates as they come...

Quit your whining, That thing is straighter than my truck.
Throw some 60s under it swap in a 5.0 and lets get crawlin:roll:

Sorry about your truck, looks to be fixable with some new sheet metal.

well im not ashamed to say ive gotten attached to my truck and id hate to have to get rid of it because of a minor accident.

if i could open and close the door i might not be having this conversation because its mostly cosmetic damage. how it runs is more important to me than how it looks.

update:

i will be fixing it myself, barring any unforeseen issues. there are local junkyards with a white door and fender, both in great shape, for a 92'. i look forward to getting my truck back on the road.

well you have the choice. take the money, repair it yourself, and drive it like its stolen. you can do what you want after you get the check. drop your insurance to a minimun, becouse if you do it yourself they won't fix it again. but you say it's old and you want a truck to 4-wheel in thakr the money buy the tires you want, fix it and use the rest to buy a diffrent truck for a driver
