First of all, the 5spd trans in my truck is a fresh rebuilt, less than 6 months old, with new clutch. Never had a problem, till this morning. I leave for work, everything working fine. Make it to the end of my street, stop and wait for crosstraffic, then put it in first, and notice that the shifter goes a little farther up than normal. No time to think about it so I get going, get to the shift point, try to drop it in second and the stick wont budge. So I pull over, shut off the engine and wiggle it around untill it finally drops back to neutral. So I drop it to second and head back for the house. Stop the engine again and play with the shifter, when you shift into first it goes past the gear and into nothing, this is by feel. Well then I try first gear starting out by carefully pushing forward and feeling. Nothing when I gas it, then I try second gear and guess what, nothing. Third fourth and fifth and reverse work fine.
I have called the shop where the work was done and its covered by warranty for a year, so they will fix it, but I gotta get it up there myself and it will take till friday to get it back.
Now the question, what happened? They say a worn fork, or bad shifter mechanism. I am wondering now if I fix it will it break again six months from now?
And to top it all off, I bought a Hurst short throw last night, talk about jinx.

make sure your warranty starts over :)

Well finally my truck is sitting in my garage again, I got it back early. Turns out one of the shifter pins was sheared, I'm not a transmission guy so not sure exacty what causes this. As for restarting the warranty, or extended, I was told in simple terms to go F**k myself, lol. Oh well what can you expect, I got the trans rebuilt, updated and installed for $900. At least they fixed it without any arguing.
I had the privilage of driving some nice cars this week, like a '02 Explorer, fully loaded, and a '06 Impalla. But I was more than happy to get my own back. Now I can install the Hurst shifter!

If that was really their attitude.. I'd say its time to never go to them again, and bad mouth them every chance you get.

Cheap is one thing, but service matters. I will gladly spend a little more at some other place to get better service.
