whale oil in the diff?

i dont think any of our explorers came with it, but i heard that some older cars came factory with whale oil in the rear differential. somebody was telling me about this, he said he changed it and then told his freinds that he had, they said he should have left it in there cause it would have lasted forever. just wanderin if there was any truth to this guys story

Was the car a FIAT? I don't know what kind of oil they came with, but man does it stink!

i've never heard of it. maybe, but i dont think any american auto manufacturers did this.
