If you have any sub box securing suggestions for any year and model explorer, please leave them here for people to learn.
I totalled my explorer in a multivehicle accident the other day, unfortunately I was at the end of the line of vehicles and all my damage was soley my fault (plus the woman I hit is claiming neck injuries and prolly gonna try and sue me, yay), and I got a tailgating ticket..
anyhow, my 150lb+ box broke the locks that hold the rear seats in the upright position, i dunno how, but the box rolled forward and hit my seat, luckily the crash was only around 35mph and I was not hurt. except for the 2nd degree burn on my arm from airbags...
to my surprise, the box and subs were fine... but I wanted to bring this to attention of the explorer audio community, of how important it is to secure the box... I never did so because I did not know how to secure a box in a 2002 4 door xls explorer. I won't be getting my explorer for prolly 3+ months before it gets fixed, it happened just yesterday so I really have no clue whats going on since insurance companies don't do **** on hollidays.
I doubt anyone here except 3-5 people have a box as big as mine was (11.5 cu ft after displacement), but I could bet a smaller box would roll easier than mine. so, be sure to mount your box to the inside of your explorer somehow... besides... insurance won't cover it unless it's anchored.
I've already found a way to mount my box, since the floor is out of the question because of the small cargo areas my subbox sits upon, I found that I could quite easily secure it to the big square hooks on the floor with a chain and a couple of hooks. just make sure you read the strength of the chains/hooks when shopping for them at home depot or lowes.
