Need a Sub Box???

....I am still planning on making these but I need an X we can open up and I can template...

I need a factory fit sub box (I have a good amp/speaker but an ugly square box). I need to rip the side panel off to fix other things, but I can't tie up my daily driver away from home for more than a few hours.

What if someone buys a used commercial 2nd gen box to use for measurements and sells it when done?

...Hmmm, do I smell a famous Ritsui and Khiori Bar b q about to happen...:D

....This is worth a thought...I could come up during the week and bring my small tools (table saw, etc..) if you are interested, and we can build the template and a box for you...:dunno:

...Now, if there is heavy snow predicted, I would have to use the time to fix my X and then head up there afterwards...;)

I have some basic tools (hand circ saw, table saw, etc.) as well, so I would certainly be open to that (and throw some steak/beer/whisky in to the deal :D).

Edit: No snow in the forecast at this point.

...I will keep you posted and hopefully can find a day in the next 2 weeks to get up there...:D

any idea on what the cost might come to? i would imagine like 25 to 30 bucks to ship. there is no need to carpet the box is there?. i think you can order the cloth cover for the panel over the sub from q logic or one of those brands that make it for like 15 bucks,

...My X has the storage compartment and I don't think they have any mounting set up if it didn't already come with a sub...

...If CJExplorer is really interested, maybe he can come up by Disneyland for the day and we can build and install the first one in his X to verify some second gen fitment...;)

No Clue what happened with the email?? Normally it emails me when i get posts on threads ive posted on.

Sorry I missed that TBar & Yea i did get a stock sub box, but it doesnt fit the amp right....Hmmm:scratch:

Im not so sure about Anaheim, but if you guys were in Lake Arrowhead, i could probobly do that. Then we could see also if Ritsui and mine have a different box area size (2dr vs 4dr)

...It looks like I will be going up to Lake Arrowhead within the next 2 weeks to build the new box...It would be cool if you could make it and we could be sure to address the problem of the sub fitment, so we can avoid the problem for future boxes...

...Making this box as universal as possible will be a plus over the expensive brand name boxes...:biggthump

...Ritsui and CJExplorer...

...It is supposed to rain m-w-fri of this week and I am working thru it...I will be able to do this on monday the 9th if it works with you guys???..:dunno:

...PM me your cell numbers and we can discuss...:biggthump

9th sounds OK, PM sent

...Got your pm and will wait and see if CJExplorer pops in before I call you...

......I guess I should ask everyone what size subs and what brands are going to be put in these box's???...This might help for future planning...:D

well, i was planning on doing a 10 inch sub in it, but seeing as i am on a tight budget, and my friend has a junk ex with a stock sub, i think i might be shoving an 8incher in that to save money as i need a brake job now too, but i will keep you posted.

I cant do it monday the 9th, Ill be back at home...we are planning going up there Thursday night thru sunday afternoon...Saturday would work best for me...Dont know if that will work for you guys???

I was thinking of an 8" JBL or Polk. 8" only because I'm not sure an enclosure this small can do much for a 10" sub. I haven't been following acoustics for years, but it seems to me that a larger speaker size without a proportional volume of airspace around it doesn't seem to make much sense.

Hell, it probably makes sense to do 8" and keep leads available for my existing 12". Tuned way down, it would probably rock.

...CJ, Are you wanting a new box??? ...Maybe you can drop your old box off with Ritsui and pick up the new box later...:dunno:

Im not really sure i need a new box, the stock is fitting...Eh..Okay for now. I just wanted to help out if you guys were planning on building a new box. Plus its just fun to hang out with ppl from EF, cuz ive only had one chance b4

...I may be able to make it Sunday but I really don't think so...:(

...Ritsui, I am hoping we can maximize the size of the box to it's full potential...That is why I want to do it on your X...Kill 2 birds with one stone...

...Most are running 10's now...I am curious if there are any depth problems with some subs???

I don't think there's a physical issue with fitment, though honestly for how many times I've removed the side skin, I can't recall the actual depth. I think it just becomes harder to engineer something for multiple generations and allow for both 8" and 10" speakers (width) without hacking the interior panel.

I also know you just can't get as much energy at a given frequency out of a larger speaker in a smaller enclosure. It's not a matter of wavelength, just basic SPL. A wider diaphragm moves more air and that air needs somewhere to go. Even the best porting doesn't change that the air 'wants' to move at least the distance the cone travels before being transmitted into another medium. Without at least that much extra air space, so much energy is lost in transmission to the frame instead of into the air and the whole thing becomes inefficient.

Whoops, posting when drunk again.... I forget that I haven't been a sound engineer for decades... and was probably high most of those days in any case :smoke:. I'm cool working for either 8" or 10", but let me know so I can order one.

FWIW, Sunday would be even better for me. Rachel needs to work on Mondays and I hate driving the F250 unless it's actually hauling a load :).

...I have just got back to town and still need to unload...I was really hoping to get up there tomorrow...I just fixed a coil pack problem on my Ranger and I busted the end on the pos cable.....So, I need to spend part of tommorow seperating my wiring harness to find out which of the 15 possible positive cables I have on my Ranger...

...It looks like it will be tuesday or wednesday if that will work???..:dunno:
