I hit a deer not too long ago on the front, passenger side. The air bags deployed. I was just wondering what all I need to replace the air bags? I have bid on some air bags on ebay, but will I need to replace other parts as well?

Also, what would a dealer cost to replace them if I took them the truck and the airbags?

Thanks so much,
Chris

Besides the airbags themselves, you will need to replace the sensors unit(s). And on some cars/trucks you need to have the computer reset....for a dealer to do it you could buy a real decent different Explorer...:)...some places you can't legally replace them yourself, as well......a certified technologist MUST do it.....anybody else have any more info??

I had this process done on a 2004 Honda a while back, cost almost as much to fix it up as it cost initially, it had a bent frame as well though...then didn't get as much as I put into it when I traded it off!! :(

Thanks for the info, UKExploder.

Anyone else have any info on what I need to buy????

Thanks in advance,
Chris

air bags, new sensors behind the bumper and the air bag controller "brain" box

I paid $150 for everything I needed

Dealer or otherwise is easily over $1000 to have done

Took me all of 18 minutes to replace both bags and the brain box
Make sure you follow the CORRECT proceedure, there are a few websites that cover this and I found everything I needed to know about my 96 right here on this forum using the search button

Actually the air bag sensors are just above the bumper, behind the grill;)

If you don't care about the passanger side, you can just get the fake plastic piece for that side. They were available is Rangers, as 95-96 passanger side bags were a option, not standard
