an extractor tool MIGHT work for you and back out the broken bolt. if not i THINK the bolt idea has been done before but not positive. wait for others to chime in and get their opinion.

shock bolt.

You can get one one these at the parts store. Grind and drill the broken bolt and replace. Had to do both of mine.

I bought 4 full sets a couple months ago when I saw that price.

My truck needed a new set anyways, and I've got spare sploders (well not for long, in the process of cutting them into bite sized pieces), so why not spare parts? Plus, my dad has an explorer too, and he isn't too long from needing shocks either... The ride feels normal for an explorer... I suppose I could have bought something else and got a softer ride, but I'm a guy, so I don't care.

FWIW, when I broke off strut mounts, I just beat the old one off by giving it a couple good hard whacks with a 3lb sledge then used a grinding stone to soften up the edges before I put one of those replacement strut mount bolts in.

What kind of ride...

do you have with the motorcraft shocks? I bought Gabriel Ulrtra's and they are stiff!!!! I don't mine it. But some passengers compared it to riding in a tank. I told them it's a man's truck, but I was considering changing to something not so stiff.

Honestly... probably only slightly less stiff than those gabriel Ultras. I put Sensa-tracs on my ex-wifes explorer, and that this is positively soft compared to mine or factory. The ride on mine is comparable to how they were from the factory, although maybe a little stiffer. I have heard those Gabriel Ultras are a little stiffer though..... I may be wrong, it has been a while.

Guess I just keep them. Thanks for the info.

gabrials are cheaper like 9.90 iirc but havent really heard good about gabrial shhocks so i splurged another dollar haha

I got them on sale last year. I've always had pretty good luck with Gabriel's.

Since no one else mentioned it I will. In the future use PB Blaster on rusted bolts. Not Liquid Wrench.:)
