Hello all,

Well, 100,137 miles on my 2002 XLT 4.0L and I've decided i just don't have the time or the want to be doing a transmission rebuild in the middle of November.

So I'm bringing it to a shop! Not wanting to get ripped off, what have all of you paid to get your 5R55W\S rebuilt?

Post here your transmission type/cost/parts replaced!

Thanks!

P.S. To the MODS, you need to update this form heading, 5R55W and 5R55S are both aren't in their! Makes me feel left out. LOL

Mine isnt an S or a W but an E -- and it wasnt a rebuilt. I calculated that installing it myself would be cheaper. So having said that, I bought a rebuilt 5r55E for around a grand.

My rebuild cost 2,000$.

My 5R55E total rebuilt was $1800 in Omaha.

5r55s in Detroit, $1600, lifetime warr.

I got a friend of mine who works with me at a Mercedes dealership and that tech rebuilt mine for $250 and I'm putting it in this weekend. lol I guess thats the plus for working at a dealership.

98 Ford Explorer EB, $1800 1 year warranty

My trans was $1600 on my 02 4x4 E/B at 91k miles. I did the remove and replace for my brother. 3 months later, the shifter broke off the column. Stealership charged him just shy of a grand to fix, (not replace).

After that, he sold to me for $3500, he had enough. After almost 2 yrs, I still love it.

My 5R55W needs a rebuild/replacement I think.

Being quoted $1615 for labor plus parts; 12 mo / 12,000 miles

-or-

$3631 for a Certified Ford Rebuilt units; 3 mo / 36,000 miles

Not quite sure what is wrong yet, will find out soon.

Makes a racket on a cold start up, them quiets down when warmed up.

Are you sure it's the trans and not the timing chains on the engine? How does it shift?

I put it in the shop assuming it was the rear cam chain guide. The technicians have looked it over and determined it is the transmission.

When mine went out....around x-mas of 2003:rolleyes: Ford quoted me about $2300 to rebuild, or $2700 for a Brand New trans. I bought the brand new one;)
